How to choose running shoes for me?

Question Mark

🏃‍♂️ Know Your Running Type

How often & how far do you run?

  • Beginner / casual runner: ~1–3 times/week, short distances → neutral, cushioned shoes
  • Regular runner: 3–5 times/week → more structured shoes with good support
  • Long-distance / marathon training: high-mileage shoes with durability and comfort

🦶Understand Your Foot & Running Style

Your foot’s arch and how your foot rolls when you run determine what kind of support you need.

You can check this by doing a simple wet test:

  • High arch: only heel and ball of foot show → likely underpronation → need cushioned shoes
  • Normal arch: full imprint with slight curve → neutral gait → many options
  • Flat arch: full wide imprint → overpronation → need stability or motion-control shoes

📏Get the Right Fit

Important fit tips:
✔ There should be a thumb’s width (about one finger) between your longest toe and the end of the shoe
✔ Shoes should feel snug in the heel but with room around the toes
✔ Try on shoes later in the day (feet swell, so this gives a more accurate fit)
✔ Wear the socks you’ll run in

🎯 Cushioning & Support

Pick based on comfort and running terrain:

  • Neutral cushioning – most comfortable for runners with normal gait
  • Stability shoes – for mild to moderate overpronators
  • Motion control shoes – for flat feet / stronger overpronation
  • Minimalist shoes – lower cushioning, closer to barefoot feel (for experienced runners)

🌳 Match Shoes to Where You Run

  • Road runners: smooth, even cushioning – lighter weight
  • Trail runners: aggressive tread, tougher materials
  • Mixed terrain: hybrid sneakers

🏷️ Try and Test

  • Walk + jog in the store (or at home, if online return is easy)
  • Some running stores offer gait analysis — helpful but not essential
