The TCS Sydney Marathon 2026 will take place on Sunday, 30 August 2026, in Sydney. It is now part of the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors, making it one of the most sought-after marathon entries

Key details

  • Date: 30 August 2026
  • Distance: 42.195 km
  • Start: North Sydney
  • Finish: Sydney Opera House
  • Course highlight: Runners cross the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge before finishing at the Opera House.

Sydney is considered a scenic but not particularly fast marathon. The route includes several rolling hills, especially around Oxford Street, making it more challenging than flat courses such as the Berlin Marathon.

Race-day conditions

Late August is the end of winter in Australia:

  • Typical temperatures around 8–18°C.
  • Usually cooler than many North American or European summer marathons.
  • Often excellent conditions for endurance racing.

Sydney is currently one of the easiest Majors to obtain compared with races like the London Marathon or New York City Marathon, but demand is rising rapidly and ballot odds have already become tougher. Many runners expect entry to become much more competitive over the next few years.

Will you run in Sydney? 🙂
