Midsole & cushioning
Nike Pegasus Premium is the much more technologically ambitious shoe. It combines ZoomX foam + a full-length sculpted Air Zoom unit + ReactX foam. Nike designed the Air Zoom unit to run from heel toward the forefoot, giving the shoe a springier transition through the stride.
The Supernova Rise 2 uses Adidas’ Dreamstrike+ foam with its Support Rods system. It’s a much more traditional daily-trainer construction, designed to give a comfortable, predictable ride rather than the highly engineered sensation of the Pegasus Premium.
At roughly 325 g, the Pegasus Premium is substantially heavier than the Supernova Rise 2. The Adidas is arguably the more sensible choice for a runner who primarily wants a comfortable daily trainer.
Ride & responsiveness
The combination of ZoomX and Air Zoom gives it a bouncy, energetic feeling, particularly when you want more response from the shoe. Nike describes it as its most responsive Pegasus yet.
However, independent testing is more nuanced. RTINGS found the Pegasus Premium’s ride can become less cohesive when the pace increases, while RunRepeat found substantial energy return and a very high stack.
The Supernova Rise 2 is less spectacular but more straightforward: comfortable, flexible and predictable.
Stability
The Adidas Support Rods system gives the Supernova Rise 2 a more structured feeling underfoot.
The Pegasus Premium isn’t a stability shoe. Its high stack and complex cushioning system prioritize cushioning and responsiveness rather than traditional stability.
